Posted May 26th, 2010
After spending six years as a sports agent in Los Angeles, the Minnetonka native returned to launch an agency (The Institute for Athletes) that would go well beyond negotiating contracts for NFL players.

Royals remember Howser at Mo. ceremony

Posted May 26th, 2010
SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — The widow of Kansas City Royals manager Dick Howser took a look around the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame on Tuesday and couldn't help but smile proudly.

There was former center fielder Willie Wilson, with speckles of gray in his hair, and former catcher John Wathan, as well as several other members of the 1985 World Series champion Royals.

Update on Patriots’ draft class signing information

Posted May 26th, 2010
We ran a complete breakdown of the Patriots’ 12 draft picks and their representation back on May 6, and now that two picks have signed, we figured this is as good a time as any to update the information. (Signing information on last year’s deals was culled from the always awesome Mac’s Football Blog.)

A Solution?

All had been quiet for more than a month on the sale of the Rangers to an investment group headed by sports agent Chuck Greenberg. The process had apparently come to a screeching halt as the consortium of 40 lenders that holds $525 million in loans made by Hicks Sports Group (HSG) was holding out for a loan pay down of at least $300 million in order to release the Rangers from the collateral securing the loan, while the sale netted $270 million.

Posted May 26th, 2010
The agent representing St. Louis Cardinals first baseman Albert Pujols, Dan Lozano, has left Beverly Hills Sports Council, ESPN reported late Tuesday.

One of the sports agency’s four partners, Jeff Borris, confirmed Lozano’s exit, the sports network said.

Lozano had been with the firm since 1989. ESPN said he had not returned their calls seeking comment, and his plans were not known.

PSG News 5-20-2010

It is really a great time to be a Sports Agent based on the wonderful calls we are receiving from graduates. Mark Gundry, a recent graduate, now has 14 players under contract with 9 signed or committed to sign to Pro Teams within the next week. Mark completed the course in late January just in time to get his NFL Players Agent application into the league. He is one we will be watching closely in the 2011 NFL Draft. Mark will have his NFL certification by the end of August of this year. Mark says most of his prospects came off his bio on www.ProSportsGroup.com.

The NBA draft prospects are in full contract signing mode so keep your focus and get them signed up right away. If we can assist in any way please give us a call.

Have a great day!

Cameron Heyward, DE, Ohio State: Defensive Player Spotlight

Posted May 20th, 2010
If the name sounds familiar, you'll recall his father, Craig "Ironhead" Heyward, who was a RB for 11 years in the NFL and sadly passed away in 2006. Cameron is a gigantic and talented defensive lineman who will be among the top defensive prospects for in 2011.

What a start? Match-fixing takes guard

Posted May 20th, 2010
It was a sultry hot summer evening of April when we landed in Dhaka, the entire contingent of the new-born cricket portal CricketNext.com. As the Indian Airlines flight descended in awkward jerks from a cloudless sky, I reminisced with a peculiar sense of disbelief that fateful afternoon at the Oberoi hotel in Mumbai just a few weeks ago. Pallavi (my wife) and I had gone all prepared, with a heavily worked out business plan capturing projected eyeballs, competitor analysis, on-line ad revenues, off line events, web-casting potential, the break-even levels etc, to meet potential investors in our internet venture. The famous trio of venture capitalists included the crème de la crème of the cash-surplus jet-set. They were indeed a formidable combination; the reclusive, Indian stock-market Big Bull-II Ketan Parekh, telecom czar Vinay Maloo of Himachal Futuristic and the ultimate global entrepreneur the world of cricket had ever seen, Kerry Packer. The irrepressible media tycoon who showed the game of cricket the multiple colors of money. We were in august company.

Explorers drop series finale, 7-5

Posted May 20th, 2010
GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas -- Two years after a rocky season with the Sioux City Explorers, Juan Camacho had a little extra motivation as the X’s paid a visit to his new team, the Grand Prairie AirHogs.

Unable to ward off a doubleheader sweep by Sioux City despite a big night on Tuesday, the veteran third baseman had the clutch bat again Wednesday, igniting a four-run third inning with a two-run single as the Hogs salvaged a 7-5 win in the final game of a three-game American Association baseball series at Quik Trip Park.

Two Very Different Approaches To Honoring Your Contract

Posted May 20th, 2010
Houston's Andre Johnson wants to re-negotiate his seven-year contract that has five years remaining on it. Oguchi Onyewu wants to play for AC Milan so badly, he'll do it for free. Who is the dummy and who is the hero?

Honesty pays off for Parker

Posted May 20th, 2010
Dustin Keller sought an agent he could trust as the former Purdue and Lafayette Jeff star prepared for the 2008 NFL draft.

The tight end was confident he could handle the participation side of professional athletics. It was the often complicated financial side of his craft that made Keller nervous.

Griffey has clairvoyant for agent

Posted May 20th, 2010
As Ken Griffey Jr.’s advisor, you’d think sports agent Brian Goldberg would be busy resolving his client’s untenable future with the 2010 Mariners. Griffey has a contract that’ll expire at the end of the season, but financial planning for the presumptive first-ballot Hall-of-Famer isn’t the issue, and hasn’t been an issue for more than a decade.

Bianchi's leadership spearheads CCA turnaround

Posted May 20th, 2010
Baseball has been a big part of Chris Bianchi's life since he started playing
T-ball when he was 4, and he hopes it always will be. The Canyon Crest Academy senior says he wants to be involved in the game after he hangs up his spikes for the last time and is mulling a career as a professional sports agent.

His vision of the profession, however, is far from the one commonly associated with cut-throat negotiating and greed.

Great month of inbound calls for the Sports Agent Course. Thanks for all the referrals, as they have contributed to keeping our costs down over the last several years. Other market costs have skyrocketed and appear to be headed upwards again so a price increase for the services will be announced shortly. If you know of anyone who wants to become an agent let them know now is the time to start.

We had a very interesting call the other day from a true gentleman and professional. A different sport was involved on this call, Professional Bass Fishing. A sport many of us love but are less then professional at. JW Morena former Rodeo Star and the PBR rider continues living his dream but now as a Professional Bass Fisherman. You may have seen him on TV, ESPN, or heard him on the radio teaching, and educating the public on this wonderful pastime. JW, “Coop” as he is often known by, does private bass fishing outings for celebrities and professional sports personalities in addition to his promotional and educational activities. If you need a day or two break from the “ Rush” of being a sports agent or athlete you might want to check out JW’s services at www.fishwithjw.com. Expect the best hospitality and privacy the south has to offer.

Giving Athletes the tools to handle the media and improve their brand… that’s the premise behind a new book written by Pro Sports Group Student, Barbara Pinson. The book is called “Athletes and the Media: Bridging the Gap.”

Barbara is a 15-year broadcast journalist, Media Coach and sports fanatic. The book is a combination of her media knowledge, insight from various Sports Journalists and interviews with retired athletes, including former Carolina Panther Mike Minter, and two-time Super Bowl champion Antonio Goss. Each offers their perspective on brand management, and improving athlete-media interactions.

Education is the key to your success. This is a much needed book by a true professional. Plan on adding this to your “ Sports Agent Library” right away. For more information, visit www.mediaversed.com. The book will be ready in mid-June.

Happy Birthday to Pat Summerall this week. Pat turned 80 on the 10th and is still the best known and loved “Sports Broadcaster” of “All Time”. We appreciate Pat giving his support and name to Pro Sports Group. He is a gentleman whom we are very proud to associate with.
