Speaking at the “State of the Bills” event at the Hyatt in downtown Buffalo Gailey was asked how far Newtons visit on Tuesday will go in the teams evaluation of the QB. “These visits have a big impact on what we think, and what we do, and what we believe about the guys we plan to draft.”, said Gailey. “This is a big part of the evaluation process”. “I lay everything on the table when guys walk in here. I try to get them to understand exactly who we are, what we’re about, where we’re going and how we plan to get there. And if we end up working together, how they might fit into the scheme and into the system.”
“I want to know everything there is to know about him (Newton)” added Bills GM Buddy Nix. Nix admitted he doesn’t believe quarterback is the Bills biggest need with Ryan Fitzpatrick already in the fold, but said that doesn’t mean the team won’t use the third overall pick on a signal caller.
“I think we’ve got a lot of needs”, said Nix. “If you wait until you do not have a quarterback you are too late. Our greatest need is not quarterback. It’s definitely not quarterback. If there were to be a franchise guy there. A guy that we deem as a guy that can go 8-10 years, and be the face of the organization, and take us to the playoffs and win every year. You can’t pass him up”, said Nix.
Nix added that he has another month to decide if there is a franchise quarterback in this years draft class. He also confirmed the team will host Missouri QB Blaine Gabbert and Florida State QB Christian Ponder. The Bills say they have 25 pre-draft visits scheduled.
