John Blake, then assistant coach at the University of Oklahoma, is reported to have introduced Bosworth, then a linebacker and all-American, to Gary Wichard. Blake allegedly told Bosworth that Wichard would change his life. Bosworth later hired Wichard as his agent. Arranging such a meeting between a sports agent and a college athlete may be a violation of NCAA policies.
John Blake tendered his resignation to USC, where he had been working as defensive line coach, last month when allegations surfaced that he was steering Tar Heels players to Wichard.
It now appears that Wichard and Blake have a long-standing relationship and the investigation has a lot more ground to cover. Blake served as assistant coach for the Dallas Cowboys, then became head coach at Oklahoma from 1996 to 1998. In addition to the university and the NCAA, the NFL Players Association and the North Carolina Secretary of State’s office are also investigating. NCAA Finds More Problems With North Carolina.
