This isn’t Riggins’ first acting gig, though. After being inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1992, Riggins ventured into acting and starred in off-Broadway productions of Gillette and A Midsummer Night’s Dream. He also appeared in the theater production of Illegal Motion as the beleaguered head football coach accused of inappropriate recruiting practices.
Most recently, Riggins graced the small screen as he was cast as Mitch Hendon on The Guiding Light for three episodes. He was last seen as Marty Leonidas in the 2005 episode of Law and Order: Criminal Intent.
The casting of Riggins, 60, shouldn’t really come as a surprise to fans of One Tree Hill. If you recall, Jerry Rice, who is widely regarded as the greatest wide receiver ever and one of the greatest players in National Football League (NFL) history, has already appeared on the show’s seventh season. And with Robert Buckley currently appearing on the show as a sports agent, I bet more athletes are likely to grace the series.
