Bundesliga sides are also interested in the striker but his agent Oliver Wendt believes any club would have to pay big money for Pavlyuchenko, who cost Spurs £14 million.

Wendt told ESPNsoccernet: “There is interest from some clubs in England and Germany, but Roman has two more years on his contract with Tottenham.

“It’s not in our hands if he can move or not. The decision is Tottenham’s if they let him go or not and I think it is important another club likes to pay.”
Jenas happy

Meanwhile, midfielder Jermaine Jenas reckons there is no better club to be at the moment than Spurs.

The midfielder, who signed from Newcastle in 2005, told the club’s official website: “It’s the best squad of players we’ve had since I’ve been here.

“As a club, we’re in a in a great place at the moment. The level of training has gone up 10-fold, the intensity, the competition for places, everything is at such a high level.

“If we want to be anywhere near the top of the league these are the players we need to have and the attitude we need to have.”

Jenas added: “The lads are so up for it and as a club, there is a good, good feeling here at the moment.”

Spurs face a trip to Newcastle on Saturday and assistant boss Kevin Bond insists the club will not be taking their trip to St James’ Park lightly.

Big stage

He said: “Newcastle will always get 50,000 people there and you’ve still got to be able to handle that pressure of the big stage with a full house.

“They are very passionate fans up there so you need to have strong minds and a strong character, and be resolute as a side.

“They’ve started to find a little bit of form so it will be a difficult game for us.

“But we know that we’re playing well and capable matching anybody on our day in the league, so we’ll go there in a positive frame of mind.”

Bond added: “They are at home so there will be a bit of expectation on them to come and take the game to us.

“In some ways that might suit us because it might make it more of an open game.”
