“Quite frankly, fans don’t miss the NBA yet until after they start the holiday season. The Christmas games usually really are the NBA kickoff and then towards the playoffs,” Thompson says.
Thompson says the NBA hasn’t been following the NFL’s business model because the players decertified the union well after the NFL players did during their dispute.
When asked which side in the dispute looked worse, Thompson said both sides look bad because of the fan reaction to the lockout. He says the whole situation is a shame considering the rise in fan interest near the tail end of last season.
